Journey by road is the best way to travel from the capital of Sultanate of Oman – Muscat to Jabal Akdar – a year round tourist destination located at Al Hajar Mountains range in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman.
The way from Muscat Airport to Jabal Akhdar is through Rusayl, Fanja, Izki and Birkat Al Mouz via Highway 15. The road is good and travel time is somewhere around 3 hours.

The road journey from Muscat to Jabal Akhdar can be done on any type of car – Saloon or 4×4 but while ascending on Jabal Akhdar only 4×4 vehicle will be allowed. As Jebel Akhdar is located on height, it is highly recommended to check the brakes of the cars prior to mountain ascend as there will be steep slope on the return. The car must be in good condition. Birkat Al Mouz (near Nizwa) is the gateway to Jabal Akhdar. It’s approximately 2 to 3 hours journey but economical and a memorable road trip. The landscape from Muscat to Birkat Al Mouz is amazing. There are mountains of contrasting colors on the way.
