While exploring Karachi I passed through the road, near famous shopping district of Tariq Road, leading towards an iconic roundabout (known as chowrangi locally) and my favourite chowrangi in Karachi. This is Charminar Roundabout, also known as Charminar Chowrangi Bahadurabad, built in 2007.
For many Karachiites, this is just a roundabout on the road and they just pass-by without noticing how elegant and famous this structure is.

Charminar Chowrangi monument is a mosque replica of charminar in India’s stunning city Hyderabad (not to confuse with Hyderabad in Sindh, Paksitan). In Hyderabad Charminar is a mosque constructed in 1591 and is one of the most renowned structures in India. This mosque was included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Why it is called Charminar?
This roundabout is called charminar like the one in Hyderabad. Both of them are a mosque with four minarets. That’s how this roundabout got its name. Charminar literally means four minarets or four pillars in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan and my mother tongue.
